As received from Robert Moxley as a testamonial to his
Doctors and medics

=====================

Steve; First i want to thank you and Chuck for all the hard
work and time you two have done for this worth-while project.
My story is as follows: On june 12 1969 while serving with D
Co. 1st Bn. 9th Marines in Khe Sanh on operation Utah Mesa,
I was severly wounded. I was placed in a body bag, and not
expected to survive. My left leg was very badly mangled as
well as my right arm due to hostile enemy combat.

Upon my arrival at Third Med Bn. in Quang Tri, I was rushed
to the operating room just to see if my life could be saved. I
remember seeing several doctors viewing my xrays and
quite a few medical personel shaving and scrubbing all
parts of my body. I got up enough strength to ask the
surgeon if I was going to loose my leg, his response was
that it didnt look very promising. I then told him not to take
it off and he replied , Marine if we can save your life by doing
the amputation we will. Then i was put under and who
knows how many days I was out.

My leg was still attached, also my arm, but they didn't look
so good (green, black, and very swollen). Then Dr. Geisler
came by and said I was a very lucky Marine, and that I came
very close to losing both my limbs, and not to get too
excited, that my leg might have to come off at a later time.
Then as the Dr. left, the duty corpsman came to me and said
how lucky I was that Dr. Geisler was on duty that night, as
he stayed with my leg for over four hours saving it. The next
several years as I lay in various hospital beds, I had a lot to
think about and one thing that was always there - Bob you
didn't even get to thank the doctor who not only saved your
life but your leg and arm as well. For years this really
bothered me and I always told my wife that I need to thank
this wonderful person for what he did.

Now with the help of your organization and Charlie Brown,
my dream will come true. Last year while attending the Khe
Sanh Vets reunion, Doc Ballard and Charlie were there, and
my lovely wife Rita inquired about finding the good doctor.
Well Charlie jumped at the challenge and grabbed the bull
by the horns and succeeded in his mission. Charlie did in 6
months what i could not do in over thirty years, mission
accomplished.

After my recovery from the wounds, I went on to lead a very
prosperous life. My wife Rita and myself have four wonderful
children, all grown with children of their own. I am a retired
Postal supervisor, and now we farm in the mountains of
Northeast Oregon.

I am a firm believer that every day is a holiday and every
meal is a banquet! Thank you Dr. Geisler for giving me the
opportunity for a great and fulfilling life.
